NUTRITION & NATUROPATHY SERVICES

I have learnt from personal experience that as with many beneficial steps we might take, nutritional therapy is a journey and not a ‘quick fix’. To achieve optimal improvements and work together to determine how your body is responding to nutritional changes, I often find that an initial consultation with 1-2 follow up sessions (each one 4-6 weeks apart) can work really well.

HEALTHY STARTS HERE

Successful nutritional therapy involves an element of self-empowerment and motivation to explore and commit to making changes, introducing these at a pace and in a way that is realistic for us, supports the goals we have for our health and well-being, is sustainable for the long-term, and allows us to re-connect with and enjoy the experience of preparing and eating healthy food that tastes good.

What I love about naturopathic nutrition, is that changes can be quite straightforward and do not require sticking to rigid diets. Approaching things holistically, also means I will consider stress reduction and how specific relaxation and naturopathic techniques will support your health, well-being and energy levels.

INITIAL CONSULTATION

To be able to advise and support effectively, my initial consultation comprises a detailed nutrition/naturopathic case taking. I will then interpret the case, based on my nutritional therapy and naturopathy training, and prepare a suggested nutritional programme (which may include supplement recommendations), with therapeutic guidance and related information to support you individually.

FOLLOW UP

These sessions are to discuss your progress and how you are feeling in light of dietary and lifestyle/therapeutic steps and any supplements recommended. We refine your individualised programme, potentially recommending certain tests to dig deeper into root causes if it is felt this might be helpful. These could include blood testing, stool testing, adrenal cortisol and DHEA saliva testing, thyroid testing, and gene testing.

FAQ

  • Do you offer an introductory call to discuss if you can help me?
Yes, I offer a 15-minute Discovery Call via Zoom. This gives us the chance to e-meet, discuss the support you are seeking, and decide if you would like to proceed with a consultation.
  • How many nutritional therapy sessions will I need?
This varies depending on health of client and symptoms/issues that each client would like to work on. Typically, I find that an initial consultation with 1-2 follow up sessions (4-6 weeks apart) can work really well. For longstanding chronic conditions, sessions over a longer time period may be needed to navigate nutritional therapeutic needs and an optimal approach for each individual. Nutritional Therapy is a journey and not a ‘quick fix’. It is a powerful means of supporting health and vitality and a positive step that we can ‘own’ and undertake for ourselves. Once you are underway you will feel the difference and this is often all the motivation people need to commit. I will be there to support all the way.
  • Do you recommend supplements?
Given I work naturopathically, I prefer to focus on recommended dietary changes and support, wherever possible. Sometimes supplements can be helpful as an initial ‘boost’ to a client’s nutritional programme or might be recommended in addition to inclusion of supportive foods/removal of aggravating foods, when test results indicate a vitamin and/or mineral deficiency.
  • When do you recommend use of tests?
I typically only recommend use of tests once we see how nutritional changes are working and how each client feels. If clients are seeing improvements we know we are on the right track and can proceed on the journey. If however, issues remain then we may need to investigate further to see what deficiencies or imbalances might be contributing to symptoms. In these cases blood tests, stool tests, genetic testing, or hair mineral analysis can be informative in determining what is going on and how best to support from a nutritional standpoint.
  • Do you see children?
Yes I do. For anyone under the age of 16, a parent or guardian is required to provide consent to treatment on behalf of the child. A parent or guardian will also be required to attend consultations with children under 16.
  • Is there full disability access at your clinic?
My clinic room at York Eco Business Centre is on the first floor of the building. There is lift access but there is currently no working disabled lift access. I also offer online/virtual consultations and so please do contact me in this regard, to discuss what might work best for you.
